Jaw Surgery

Aunt Gina and Melanie,

I was wondering if you could tell me about your jaw surgeries that you had a few years ago. I found out that I have the option to get it done too. Could you possibly tell me about your experiences (pros and cons)and if you think it's a good idea for me to get it done?
Any info/advice you have, would be very helpful....Thanks so much! :-)

I hope everything is going well with you both!
Love
Andrea

Andrea,
My advise is to have it done. The Pros are having the smile you've always wanted, more confidence etc. I have nothing but good to say about the whole procedure. Way more positives than negatives. Even the pureed food is not a big deal. Give me a call. 899-2954 (Home) 240-6303 (Cell)

I second Aunt Gina. I never had any regrets having it done. The hardest part for me was not being able to go sledding with Jon 2 days after I got home! I got over that. I still have some numbness in the middle of my chin but honestly have gotten so used to it I never notice it until I think about. I agree! The positive definitely outway the negatives.

Will just had his done too. He looks great! He would be a great one to talk to since he just went through it earlier this spring. Good luck.

Aunt Gina and Melanie,

Thanks for your comments. I appreciate them. I didn't know Will just had it done too!!. I'll definitely have to talk to him about it.:-) As of right now, I'm pretty sure I'm leaning towards getting it done, I just have to figure all the little stuff out now.-Especially the cost. I have to wear braces for 8 months before I have the surgery done. And I might have to wear them again after the surgery- (is that normal?) and I'm meeting with the surgeon May 26th to find out more about the operation part of it. Fun! Fun! :-)
Anyway, thanks again for your advice and I will let you know how things are comming along.
Love
Andrea

Andrea, For all three of us we did have to wear braces both before and after. So its normal, they adjust your teeth before the surgery and then they fine tune everything after, making sure your bite is perfect. Let us know what you decide and everything they plan on doing. My procedure was pretty extensive. Bone was removed from my top jaw and my chin was lifted. I was in surgery for 6 1/2hours and like Melanie I still have a few numb spots. If your family loves you at all they'll let you know when you have food on your chin. LOL
